As part of our seismic retrofitting services in Southern California, CXC Contracting installs helical piers – a critical step in keeping buildings safe from earthquakes.
Did you know California gets hundreds of earthquakes every day? Most of these are too small for most people to even feel. But we also get two to three earthquakes every year that are large enough to cause moderate damage to structures (magnitude 5.5 and higher).
There’s no possible way to prevent earthquakes from occurring, but it’s our job as engineers to ensure buildings are up to code when it comes to seismic retrofitting.
The main goal of retrofitting is to ensure the foundation of the building is strong enough to withstand the effects of an earthquake. We address design flaws that may have been overlooked during the original construction process, mainly in earlier-20th century homes and buildings where raised foundations were not crafted with steel or iron to fortify them.
What happens as the decades go by? The mortar crumbles away, causing faster deterioration because the supporting posts were set virtually directly on the ground. Any type of earthquake, even smaller ones, can cause structural damage and possible eventual collapse.
Our Solutions
Here at CXC Contracting, we offer complete retrofitting plans to address these concerns.
Helical piers are one solution.
These components offer cost-effective solutions to providing much-needed support for homes and other buildings that were built on sub-par soil conditions. They’re most needed in environments where noise and vibrations can cause additional risk of shifting and collapse, such as buildings within construction zones, near freeways and in heavily-populated areas.
From foundation underpinnings to tiebacks, helical piers can provide ideal solutions for deep foundation support where poor soil conditions exist, earth support for retaining walls, and boardwalk support for areas that require environmental sensitivity.
CXC Contracting is dedicated to providing the highest level of safety, quality and service when it comes to the installation of helical piles and other seismic retrofitting tasks.
A strong foundation is key, which is why we work hard to ensure your home or other building has the supports in place it needs to resist the shifting and vibrations that can occur.
We ensure your home is properly bolted to a strong foundation, plus we address other concerns such as improper waterproofing, cracks and other structural weakening that can be aggravated by earthquakes and other sources of vibrations.
Will and his company did an outstanding job retrofitting my 6 apartment buildings. I had several other companies bid this project but was won over by his knowledge and honesty. He listened to what i was concerned about, assured me he would he take care of everything and did everything he said he was going to do…and then some. I highly recommend him.

Will is honest and ethical which is a lot more than can be said about a lot of people in his business. All in all, just a pleasure to do business with.

Excellent Project Manager and crew. Very professional and knowledgeable. They even did a little extra work at no charge that was not part of the contract! You will be making an excellent choice if you hire this contractor for your earthquake foundation repair.
